Religion of peace in Pakistan

Pakistan is becoming more and more dangerous both for Muslims and non-Muslims. The most important for a person is survival, why to live in a place where there is a threat to your survival. If the blasphemy law is not reviewed by the state it will give birth to severe problems. The people of Pakistan are adopting extremist mindset, if anyone question the existence of god or religion in our society you must indeed be alleged with blasphemy. There are many platforms where people question everything, social media is one of the platforms for people to stay connected and to share their views about things happening around. Certain pages on Facebook like “Bhensa”, “Roshni” and “Mochi” are alleged for being containing blasphemous materials.

imran2There are countless faiths in the world about everything including god and religion, “I believe in god, there is no god, for each happening there is respective god, all the phenomenon happening around us are process of their own, there is no such god things behind everything, , gods are numerous in number, no there is only one god, I believe in the god of Musa, but I believe in god of Ibrahim, no I only believe in god of Muhammad, Musa’s and Muhammad’s god is same, no they are different and are not the same”, these are some beliefs that we usually come across and often we listen about different religions and various stances of religious scholars about the religion they believe in.

Religion is considered a man’s personal matter, and it becomes identity of an individual. Pakistan came into being for the Muslims of sub-continent, to have land of their own and to practice Islamic laws. Whenever there comes name of Islam there must be a very common sentence i.e. Islam is a religion of peace. The peace tag is only attached with religion Islam, we never heard Christianity is religion of peace or Buddhism is religion of peace. Study each religion will make you realise that all the religions talk about peace and love, then why a peace tag is always with Islam? Despite the fact there exists blasphemy law in Islam, while there is no concept of blasphemy In Hinduism etc. if a person intentionally insults holy books, prophets or a place of worship either by actions, words spoken or in written form, should be punish accordingly.

A 70 years old person named Abdullah, in Indonesia claimed of prophethood, he was alleged with blasphemy and a case was registered against him, trial was taken in court and was punished with 1 year imprisonment. While the article 295-C of constitution of Pakistan says, if a person insults religious beliefs must sentenced to death and to fine while the court trial to be taken with a Muslim judge. This law is being amended and is turned pro-Islamic, the law was first secular in both Pakistan and India. Initially it was for all the religious beliefs but now with amendments it became Islam’s specific. In the early 39 years of Pakistan, only seven cases of apostasy were registered while in the next 25 years the number of cases registered crossed figure of thousand, more than thousand cases of apostasy are registered now. Most of cases registered are in Punjab and that include Muslims and non-Muslims, more than 50% cases registered are against non-Muslims. While in many cases the alleged person was killed before the court trial. A very good example is of Salman taseer. Who was alleged with blasphemy and was killed by his security person without any court trial. by doing so what we are portraying about Pakistan and Islam?

The Islamabad high court issued orders to block the respective pages, indeed a good step has taken by the court but this is not actual solution to the problem, the only solution to the blasphemy is to review the article of constitution.

Everyone Is taking law in its own hands and thus the results are horrifying. Islam is a religion of peace and a prophet of peace Muhammad (PBUH) could not order Muslims to kill a person if someone is disrespecting him. The actual disrespecting of Muhammad (PBUH) is not accepting him as a prophet, if not accepting him as a prophet is not counted for apostasy then how can a person be killed by using disrespecting words for the prophet?
