Kamran after his heart defect surgery in the hospital

Kamran is an Afghan boy, 11 years of age. He has never attended school or played out with other children because Kamral was born with a heart defect and has lived with a mental impairment too.

He was introduced to Dr. BahauddinBaha who is a member of Jalalabad Rotary. Dr Baha did not hesitate to take up Kamrans cause and immediately forwarded an application on Kamran’s behalf for him to receive treatment in India at The Mission hospital Durgapur, which is a tertiary care one of the best private hospital in Eastern India.

Through god grace, The TMH Durgapur hospital responded and sent a letter of invitation to Kamran and his father to come to India for the much-needed surgery.

Kamran is not the only child coming from a large family of 7 siblings; he has 2 brothers and 5 sisters his father being the sole breadwinner for the family of 9. It would have been impossible for him to raise the money to pay for his son’s expensive operation and postoperative intensive care.

It is at this point that Afghanistan humanitarian volunteer supporter Farhad Zaheer was told of the Childs plight.

On learning of Kamran’s desperate situation and his father’s dilemma to find the funds, Farhad immediately contacted Ahamd Shah AhmadZai who is the assistant director of Aryana airlines and asked him to help provide all travelling expenses for their journey to and from India.

The next step was to fund medical transportation costs of accommodation, meals and other expenses in India.

For this Farhad Zaheer contacted an Indian humanitarian Mrs. Sipra Narulaji, to ask if she could help, Farhad Zaheer and Mrs Sipra Narula   is a   social worker from Gurgaon, Haryana in India. She and Farhad Zaheer were introduced through social media   friend Nikhil Matalia who lives in Delhi and is a volunteer helper to Sipraji in her work.

Through her many poor, needy children and adults are Regularly given eat nutritious meals, and she too arranges funds for their medical treatment, they are also able to attend organize medical clinics.

She and her helpers regularly visit slums to get first-hand the understanding of the needs of the poor and help solve their problems, by interacting with the whole family, she can motivate their parents to send their sons and daughters to school; She is inspirational and motivates others to work for such causes.

Sipraji kindly agreed to help provide funds for a poor Afghani Child. On Kamrans arrival in India Delhi International Airport Sipraji was there to greet and bless Kamran and his father by placing her hand on his head she blessed Kamran and then gave Rs10,000.00 rupees to Kamran’s father for their onward journey through Indian railways.

Jalalabad Rotary Club also donated $200.00 dollars too, to cover the expenses during their trip to India.

Doctors at The Mission Hospital, Durgapur operated upon Kamran to rectify his heart defect.

An Indian doctor from The TMH Durgapur Hospital talked on phone with Kamran’s uncle in Afghanistan and assured him that his nephews operation was successfully done. Doctors at the hospital also told him up that Kamran’s father did not eat meals cooked there thinking them to be haram and not halal. He said he ate tea and biscuits only for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The doctor asked the uncle to reassure Kamrans father that he was being given halal to eat and should be confident the meals were indeed halal for Muslims.

The kindness love and help extended by Sipra Narulaji was indeed very inspiring and insightful, giving a strong message to the world. She is of Sikh religion and willingly extended her help to Kamran, a Muslim.

The moral of the story I have told is, irrespective of race, colour, creed or religion, The message it gives says that humanity still exists in sharp contrast to those who spread hate and violence in the name of religion, race, caste etc.

Spiraji is helping two more Afghan children as well. One is Ahmad Bahir who will also be a candidate for a surgery in India once his health and strength improves and the other is Mansoor who will also be invited for his treatment at Sri SathyaSai Heart Hospital.

Lastly, and by no means any lesser the dedication and help of Dr. BahauddinBaha, Larry j Sundram and Dr. Ashok Kumar Aggarwal are freely given and highly appreciated by a long suffering Pashtun community of the forgotten land of Afghanistan.
