QUETTA: The Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief and veteran Pashtoon nationalist leader, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, termed supremacy of parliament and equal rights to all nationalities as the only panacea to all ills of the country.
“Military, judiciary and other institutions must be subservient to the parliament,” Achakzai expressed these views while addressing a public gathering organised by PkMAP in the memory of martyrs of Quetta carnage at Sadiq Shaheed Ground on Monday evening.
A large number of party supporters participated in the gathering.
The administration had taken strict security measures to avoid occurrence of any untoward incident during the public gathering in the heart of the city.
“Parliament has to be made supreme as it reflects aspirations of the people,” Achakzai asserted.
The Pashtoon nationalist leader stated that supremacy of parliament guarantees a prosperous and a developed Pakistan.
Regarding foreign policy, he reiterated that there should be no foreign intervention in our country and we must also not intervene in other countries as well.
He termed the recent Quetta carnage as one of the worst incidents of terrorism. “We will not allow anyone to spread terrorism on our land,” Achakzai maintained.
“A generation of lawyers was eliminated in Quetta to deprive this part of the country from educated and progressive people.”
“No one can forget such brilliant voices,” he said, referring towards the killing of 74 people including 54 lawyers and two TV cameramen during a deadly suicide bombing on August 8 in Quetta’s civil hospital.
Achakzai also said that injustice was the underlying reason behind spreading hatred among the people.
“The blood of innocent Pashtoons was being shed without any reason. More than a hundred thousand Pashtoons have been killed in Fata, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other parts of the country during last four decades,” he claimed, adding that 120 tribal elders were targeted.
Achakzai mentioned that Pashtoon leadership including Asfandyar Wali Khan, Aftab Sherpao and Maulana Fazal ur Rehman have been repeatedly attacked.
He also said that Quetta carnage was not an isolated incident but a part of the ongoing war. -DN, AGENCIES
