PESHAWAR: Blue Veins under the project “Strengthening District Bar Associations and setting up Facilitation Kiosks in District Court” Peshawar in collaboration with District Bar Association under Gender Equity Program (GEP) of Aurat foundation, from the American people, supported by USAID has organized an event at Peshawar Press Club to Celebrate International Women’s Day.
The event was marked by Blue Veins to highlight project achievement and oriented stakeholders on importance of international women’s day and formed a lawyer’s forum to facilitate GBV survivors from district Peshawar on pro bono basis. The participants of the forum were informed that project will help sensitize the lawyers in gender friendly legal practices and consolidate pro-women judicial precedents and regressive court precedents for comparative trend analysis. The project will also encourage lawyers to take pro-bono cases and consolidate a database of legal experts. The initiative will also facilitate information dissemination through establishing facilitation kiosk for women seeking legal assistance in the District Court Peshawar.
Mr. Mukhtar Bacha Provincial President, National Party Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the occasion highlighted the importance of the International Women’s Day ‘He said that International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to take action for accelerating gender parity. The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights. International Women’s Day is all about celebration, reflection, advocacy, and women friendly action – whatever that looks like globally at a local level.
Mr. Radish Representative from minority group during his address said that “Access to Justice is the key for women empowerment and it is the constitutional right of women to get justice without discrimination and fear of intimidation.
Mr. Qamar Naseem Program Coordinator of Blue Veins said that “Pakistani women continue to contribute to social, economic, cultural and political achievements and we have much to celebrate today. But progress towards gender parity also faces significant challenges at several levels including implementation, legislative policy, legislative levels and it’s a common test for civil society to overcome these challenges and multiple obstacles which undermine women’s right to get justice”. He further added, “different segment of society has to come together to help women and girls achieve their ambitions, challenge conscious/unconscious biases, call for gender-balanced leadership, value women and men’s contributions equally and create inclusive, flexible cultures”.
