KABUL:
Asking Islamabad to see Kabul as a good friend, former Afghan president Hamid Karzai said that Pakistan would never achieve its objectives by causing war and destruction in Afghanistan.

During an interview with THE PASHTUN TIMES, the ex-president said that Pakistan should cooperate with Afghanistan rather than promoting radicalism.

Thanking the people of Pakistan for their support, Karzai asked the government of Pakistan to recognize Afghanistan as a good neighbor.

“I wish to tell the government of Pakistan that Afghanistan is a brother. The people of Afghanistan want very friendly relations with Pakistan. The people of Pakistan are already friendly with us. We are grateful to them for having received us as their brothers in Pakistan for so many years. I request the government of Pakistan to begin to recognize that Afghanistan is a neighbor—a good neighbor. Pakistan will not achieve any objective in Afghanistan by promoting radicalism or extremism or by causing war and destruction in Afghanistan,” he said.

Karzai told THE PASHTUN TIMES that the path to Pakistan’s interests in Afghanistan is through friendship, brotherhood and cooperation.

“It is the government of Pakistan that I am addressing. I would like to say it again that the people of Pakistan are very close to the Afghan people, and have welcomed us like never before in the history of mankind. So we are eternally grateful,” the ex-president told THE PASHTUN TIMES.

He said that people on both sides of the Durand Line were suffering from extremism and terrorism, and the time was ripe to join hands to bring peace and to free the people of this “brutal war” and suffering.
